A Victim of Sibling Gender Minority

As I grew up through my wonderful ages of life I was “blessed” with one brother, then two, then three… And never did I enter the hospital to find a baby sister lying flawlessly in mother’s arms. Let me tell you, it’s a lot worse than it seems. After tripping over toys, cleaning food off the ceilings, stopping fist fights, and getting woken up at six each morning I can say that brothers are just the most interesting thing that has ever happened to me.
It was the one week every student and parent looks up to all year.. Spring break. The night was as humid and hot as everyday we had spent in the wonderful state of Florida. It was my family and our close friends, the Halliday’s. After a long day of play at Islands of Adventure we were very hungry and stopped by Sizzler, our family’s favorite restaurant, to fill our famished stomachs. Many memories had been made in the past at Sizzler, but little did we know that knew memories were soon to be made.
Leaving the amusement park was extremely chaotic in every way. As people ran passed and cars whizzed by I became sickened by the smells of food, smoke, and scents of people. Little did it help to jump in the car with three little brothers as obnoxious as little boys could get. Like all little boys they would scream at every magnificent thing they saw. Everything meshed together to become a loud buzzing sound filling my ears until I drifted off to sleep. I was waken up by more screaming of my brothers. Though my brothers were still annoying, this time I felt a little better from the 15 minute nap I had taken.
When we arrived at Sizzler, my brothers had not stopped being obnoxious little monsters. We met the Halliday’s at the restaurant and somehow my brothers had managed to get the Halliday’s tired girls filled from head to toe with the disease my brothers shared. I became to gain my senses back and to be truthful I was in an upbeat mood. The smell of food was something familiar and breathtaking in its own special way. As soon as our whole group entered the restaurant people began to stare and I knew right that second that we would be the “troublemakers” of the night.
Being seated was actually a lot easier than I thought, except for the fact that the waiter probably thought we were maniacs escaped from a recent jail escape. At the kids table we ordered our drinks and laughed as jokes were scattered throughout the air. My brother’s laughs could be heard millions of miles away and I’m surprised we never received a complaint. Finally, we received our mouth watering food. I began to eat my steak as soon as the plate was placed before me. It was such a glorious feeling after a long day to have the juice of the steak melt in my mouth as I gnawed through until it was gone. It seemed as if my brother’s voices were faded into unconsciousness as the sprite bubbled and drugged up brain. That was when all the commotion had started. Knowing my brothers they became entertained by a funny joke that had seemed to be the joke of the day. Bursting out in laughter, my youngest brothers bounced up and down practically screaming instead of a laughing. My mom had told them to calm down for the fourth time and it still didn’t kick into their little boy minds. All motions became one as my brother lifted his little hand so flawless that you could see every moment. As my mind pulled me into the real world his hand knocked over his whole plate and glass drink. Let me emphasize that, GLASS DRINK! All the food had been spilled to the ground with glass shattered everywhere just to top it off. It seems as the whole world stared at us as we took center stage of the act. Mom and dad weren’t too happy about that one, but all the kids could have sworn it was the funniest thing we had ever experienced. Though mom and dad were mad the waiter didn’t think much of it, he was just glad to help us.
After an experience like that all parents would have left the scene as quickly as possible as my parents did. We quickly paid and left, but on the bright side my brothers weren’t as obnoxious anymore. On the ride home my brothers let all cares fall far from them as they drifted off into a deep heavenly sleep. For once, my prayers had been answered and all was quiet. All I can say is thank goodness we were clear across the country!
It has been twelve years since I have became a victim of sibling gender minority. Even though it has been a long twelve years I’m more than half way through and at this moment that is my inspiration. Through all the embarrassing stories of my three younger brothers I am so glad to have three siblings to love and be an example to. Without my little friends of mine I honestly don’t know if life would be the same exciting life I have now.

Winter's Night

Why your eyes so bright?
When they shine in this winter night
Snow dazzles and melts on your skin
Cheeks rosy in the winter wind
Slowly I gaze around
To find your queen in winter's crown
Hand in hand, head on shoulder
She snuggles up before winter's colder
Hiding back my frozen tears
I run inside despite my winter fears
Fire smells of smokes and fumes
Hiding back from winter's tombs
Lying fighting hiding trying
Winter's lost in all this crying
Finally tears melted by the fire
Winter's late and I'm very tired
Ice is slick and bitter cool
But I travel home winter leaves me fooled
